The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that the government shutdown delayed an important software fix to the Boeing 737 Max 8 for five weeks.

Eventually, the FAA okayed the delayed, because Boeing and other experts saw no immediate safety threat, another source told the Journal.

That changed on Sunday, when Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 157 on board. It' was the second crash of a 737 Max 8 in less than five months, and prompted a majority of the world's countries — but not the US or Canada — to ban the plane from their airports and airspace.but as of Tuesday, the agency was standing by its decision to continue to allow the plane to fly. The US-based carriers that operate the plane, Southwest, American, and United, were also standing by their fleet.

"The FAA says it anticipates mandating this software enhancement with an Airworthiness Directive no later than April," Boeing said."We have worked with the FAA in development of this software enhancement."

So Boeing knowingly endangered people’s lives. Good to know.

I cant believe Boeing just admitted they knew they had a problem months ago. WOW!!!

Tack 'Homicidal negligence' onto treason, conspiracy, sex-trafficking, rape, money laundering, fraud, espionage, treason, sedition, bribery, tax-evasion, obstruction of justice, and poor spelling. What did I miss?

Why would that be? Boeing isn't government nor funded by govt & the Airlines aren't govt nor funded by govt. BS

Only a dumb one would believe this. You may not agree with realDonaldTrump but this is too much

It's too bad the first plane crashed before the shutdown tho because then we could really justify our insanity.

Oh don’t blame it on that. Cmon, no need to find excuses.

I don't care who's in power, people give the office of the President of the United States WAY too much power and it's just silly if you do.

This might possibly be thee dumbest, thee most stupidest, thee most misleading headline I've ever seen. And I've been around since 9800BCE.

GlennKesslerWP not the only blood on trump's hands

Yikes

GlennKesslerWP Trump's stupid shutdown endangered the lives of those who fly.

This is pure BS .. Boeing is a private company .. people safety shld come first ... they have compromised clearly

mia_francesca9 Trump really is trying to get us all killed. Or it's just a by product of his genius.

Good first book on recent history and kinds of increased risks a society faces when agencies are poorly run (often due to ignorance of their value by the citizenry), and/or suffer from regulatory capture or appropriation of public data for private gain...

GlennKesslerWP Now the families, who lost loved ones in either of the 2 crashes, know who they can sue.

Ultimately, it is on Boeing to make certain that their product is safe. One accident should have caused enough concern for investigation at the manufacturer. We can blame the FAA, Drumpf, etc., but these deaths lay squarely at the feet of Boeing!

And that is important because?

Mike_Clay Boeing is not the government. This claim makes no sense.

GlennKesslerWP So what ur saying because of shutdown Trump not only put federal employees in severe jeopardy, ruined parks etc, and now murdered passengers/staff on two (2) flights.

lizsavery Thanks realDonaldTrump

yiiiiikes

MAGA

Get government out of the process.

So that is how many MORE hundreds of deaths attributable to the actions or inaction of Tronald Dump?

So why didn't Boeing and the US airlines do something independently?

WOW

Since EVERYTHING in this world that is a US PRODUCT is manufactured in CHINA, there was NO SHUTDOWN of the CHINESE GOVERNMENT. So a US Government shutdown should have had no effect on CHINESE MADE products be it US or Chinese.

meu deus

U dont get to play with people's lives cuz of a shutdown

So is blood on his hands?

The FAA Has No Current Plans to Ground Boeing’s 737 MAX After Deadly CrashU.S. aviation regulators said they have no current plans to ground Boeing’s 737 MAX airliners following the deadly crash in Ethiopia, and expect by the end of April to mandate a software fix for an automated flight-control system that played a central role in the recent Lion Air crash of the same model. Good! Uh they need too. Hmmm...ok, now it's time to examine Boeing's 737 Max engineering. Be safe everyone, and have fun. Does it come with examination of quality, due precision and certification of local maintenance crews? Travel safe everyone.
