Companies would be wise to consider open-source solutions that can be maintained or modified by any competent developer over proprietary platforms. While proprietary systems can be attractive, they can make it much more difficult to change systems—which reduces your leverage as a customer. If a vendor knows you’re unlikely to ever leave, they’re likely to be more comfortable raising your rates in the future.
These CMS tools are quite risky from a user experience perspective. The applets that these programs push out are often huge and bulky, and they can burden users’ resources and put a strain on their internet service and/or computer. This could, in turn, result in a poor user experience, which defeats the purpose of a CMS tool.Getting stuck with a rigid configuration is another concern.
They chose a platform that was cheap and seemed like it would work, or someone on the architecture or development team had a favorite.
