One thing that puzzles me about data storage, is how slow the average USB thumb drive is. When you consider that thumb drives and SSDs use the same solid-state technology, why are so many thumb drives so sluggish.
For example, last month I reviewed an SK hynix NVMe M.2 SSD, a high speed SSD with a blistering performance. This month I’m reviewing at new product called Tube 31, a USB thumb drive with the kind of performance you only usually get with an SSD.SK hynix SK hynix is pitching Tube 31 predominantly at gamers who want to play games right off the drive, especially if they’ve outgrown their gaming console’s internal storage. To do that, the drive needs to be fast enough not to cause the game to stutter. Despite it’s gaming use, this little thumb drive is equally at home for storing documents, video, image files or audio content.
