An Aledo mom spoke before the Texas Senate Committee on Criminal Justice on Thursday about how her daughter was targeted by a classmate using AI.

Digitally altered photos — known as “deepfakes” — can be harmful, especially to children, panelists tell Texas Senate committee.

The committee hearing comes after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick charged members with, among other things, studying how predators use deepfake technology and AI to “harm or exploit children” and recommend legislation to “protect children as technology continues to evolve,” according to a list of priorities laid out by Patrick for members to tackle ahead of the next legislative session.
