Job opportunities for university science graduates have failed to match the push to get more students to study science, technology engineering and mathematics subjects, warn policy experts.
"There has been a massive escalation in the number of science students without any corresponding increase in the number of jobs that actually require a science degree," he said. "But we are not confident that over the long run that science graduates, particularly the biological science graduates, are in a good position."
Meanwhile, a new study has found that 45 per cent of more than 1000 young people surveyed were not confident, or felt unsure about finding work in their chosen career after completing their studies. "The course didn't encourage internships or offer support. I didn't do enough research into that course and regret doing it."Declan Arrighi, 23, studied journalism at the University of Wollongong and was warned it would be tough to get a job."I freelanced for six months and started interning one day a week and that led to a job in video production."
