The Apple iMac is the ideal family desktop computer, and it’s a long time since it had an upgrade. Now, with the addition of the Apple M3 processor, the 24-inch machine is amazingly fast. So, do you need it?
I’ve been using an M1 iMac since April 2021 and it is the gorgeous centerpiece to my home office. I’d moved from a 27-inch iMac with Intel processor, and I’d worried that downsizing would be an issue. It never was. In the end, the distance between my eyes and the display worked better than before: it was immersive without being overwhelming.
So, why not the iMac? First of all, I’m sure it’s on the roadmap and second, it doesn’t make that much difference, to be honest. A USB-C to Lightning cable is included in the box , so charging the mouse, trackpad or keyboard is painless. My guess, though it’s no more than that, is that Apple is planning a complete design overhaul for these accessories in due course. But Lightning works perfectly well to recharge the mouse, keyboard and trackpad.
Since the iMac is often a family purchase, that’s useful, so that everyone can tap into their own account, just by the tap of a finger on models with the Touch ID Magic Keyboard, and then tackle their chosen tasks, whether that’s video editing or games playing.
