Boeing has developed a software patch and pilot training program to address issues with the Boeing 737 MAX identified in the October Lion Air crash, the FAA says

Washington Boeing has developed a software patch and pilot training program to address issues with the Boeing 737 MAX identified in the October Lion Air crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday.

The FAA and other airplane regulators worldwide grounded the 737 MAX a week ago following a crash in Ethiopia. The agency said data and physical evidence shows similarities between the Ethiopian Airlines crash and the Lion Air crash less than six months ago. On Wednesday, the FAA provided an incremental update on its fix to the plane, which it has previously said will be rolled out"no later than April 2019.

maakstv The FAA should ensure that Boeing take full responsibility for all the clashes involving their B737 Max Aircraft by picking up the cost of compensation to both the operators and the passengers, this will serve as deterrent to manufacturers, designers and MROs the world over.

Shameful! It took nearly 400 lives and pressure from airlines and govt around the world for Boeing to take this corrective measure. This should have never allowed to happen in first place. Aviation should be more responsible as business, it's not any usual business.

ITZ high time that BOING does IT.

Boeing has also developed parachutists for those who’ve died in a Max8 Boeing aircraft, a Boeing spokesperson has claimed the parachute is designed to slow n soften the fall for all Boeing shareholders so upon hitting the ground it won’t hurt.

Why now not before hundred of people have died

I just don’t get it, when the aircraft starts to dive thinking falsely it’s in a climb and about to stall, you simply flip two switches down and it fixes the problem, I’m not even a pilot but I’ve seen a pilot show how easy it is to fix

too little too late

So you designed a plane that is inherently unstable so you use software to keep it from crashing! 🤪

Medicine after death, is not good one.

So a software patch is all that was needed to avert all those lost lives? Are you kidding me? That’s something that should have been discovered in testing long before these planes ever went public! That’s why you don’t let companies vet their own products!!!

It’s a beautiful aircraft!! Please Boeing save her!!!! ❤️

Let’s get the training done and the software out to the planes and installed!

Is it the software patch that Southwest demanded back in November? Driven by their pilots union if I got the correct story.

Couldn't the pilots have prevented these crashes? Couldn't they have taken over control of the planes when they saw it was malfunctioning.

AMERİKAN HURDA KATİLLERİ

Software patch AND pilot training? How serious was this actually!

Who is looking forward to the next ride? Boeing737 Soloxpress mercywealthgift

it was identified last year and the patch is being made now Corruption

CTRL ALT DEL

Too little too late after months of cover-ups since Lion Air crash in Oct’18

Too little too late after shams & prolonged delays in cover-ups since Lion Air crash in Oct’18

Bandaid?

FAA right? Pass

all good then, but just in case, can u pls interview an actual pilot and get some info from them? how is the training setup, any malfuctions while training etc

It's should have been done before selling them flying over our city's sky's.

maggieNYT I would sue the crap out of Boeing—not only the families of the victims of both crashes but also every consumer who has ever flown on that coffin of the air.

Not impressed with a quick fix to poor quality. Sorry if you lose money But NOT ANOTHER LIFE LOST.Shameful!

Just cancel your 737 Max 8,Boeing software updates are for iPhones 📱not still have time, you think you are immune to bankruptcy and politically invincible until you are not. You have many other great planes ✈️,scrap this and re-design it.

TooLittleTooLate

How many sensors are there? Redundancy in place? We all know software means jack poop.

A software patch Really? Software patch. Let that sink in.

This headline actually says it all, the fact that Boeing is playing with peoples lives is actually criminal. The company should be criminally liable for allowing aircrafts to fly with faulty software

Researching with people's lives😭😭😭. Convert MAX 8 to cargo plane until our hearts are healed and have forgotten our loss

Investigate Boeing!

Why so soon? Means they had the patch all along but were just experimenting with lives.

Is that anything like a quit smoking patch? If so,i sure as hell ain't flying anymore.

Is Boeing just make a DLC for Max-8? Do they merge with EA?

maggieNYT Ahhhhhh hell, A PATCH?!?!?!?!?!

Um. My life is not going to be dependent on a patch.

maggieNYT It seems like the physical sensor keep failing at far over the 1:1,000,000 rate that would be expected

Sorry where can you download the crack for this

Science experiments!! So they knew that this would happen, so they deliberately skip the software to save some cash. Now that over 250 people are died and they're losing money on the stock market, that's when they decide to develop a software. 🙄🙄

So is this already approved without testing by Boeing or what?

Took less than 48 hrs. Not counting the past 4 months (?). They all knew BoeingCEO BoeingAirplanes FAASafetyBrief FAANews SouthwestAir AmericanAir 737MAX8

How many software testers does it take to fill up the seats of ALL the grounded 737Max 's? Notme biLL

Good , now take the CEO and ensure he is on the first flights for each plane.

A patch? Stop playing with people’s lives!

We know what the human cost was for this negligence. Now I wonder what will be Boeing’s total financial cost!

I am a commercial pilot myself, I don't like/trust any aircraft that is so automated that the pilot has no direct means of control. In this aircraft the pilot has a computer joystick! Do you want to fly in it? 737Max

Soooooo the IT guys asked 'did you try restart before you took off'?

Still not flying in it!

Boeing force fitted an out of date airframe with engines and technology that were never imagined decades ago when it was built. Then sold it saying just keep doing the same things. No new training. Fail. Period. Done.

I think I'll stay off them though, if it's all the same. Thanks.

Congratulations for not continuing to kill people. Boeing

Thank God! Hopefully though they'll run the planes through a riggerous trial before it's put back in service.

Shouldn’t all that happen before they put it in service in the first place?

This is actually frightening. Patching software is for ERP and PCs, not airplane flight controls.

It will still be a cold day in hell before I step foot on one of those planes.

maggieNYT Horse leaves barn...gate closed a week later...

This doesn't fix the fact that it only has the ne sensor for 'angle of attack', a single point of failure.

Thought it was safe!?

This is a problem Boeing tried to cover up.

maggieNYT Is it possible that Elaine chow knows little about transportation and was selected just because she’s Mitch McConnell‘s wife

Would have been nice if they did this proactively don’t you think?

Are this like an iOS patch? Uh Oh!

After the coverup, I don't trust Boeing or the FAA. Why didn't the develop a patch so quickly after the first disaster? I will never get on one of those flying death traps.

The ambulance chancing lawyers smell blood with that news.

maggieNYT A “software patch” is for when the event Pikachu isn’t wearing the right hat.

Software Patch? For the passengers or just the crew ?

IT NOW MATTERS CAUSE FLYING AN AIR BUS IS NOT THE SAME AS 777. SO LIKE WAS DONE THERE WHEN THE COMPUTER FAILS THE CREW MUSH BE ABLE TO FLY THE PLANE LEAVE THEM ON THE GROUND.?POTUS

Why should anyone trust them now?

what about that buss with 51 burning children?

AeroimagesChris 2 years too late and only because its stock is being hammered. Pathetic.

WHAT THE FUCK STILL THE PLANE IS FALLING OUT OF THE SKY IF THE COMPUTER DOES NOT PREFORM PROPERLY?

That's interesting, considering that the crash investigation is incomplete.

maggieNYT BelieveMe Boeing

Now ask people would they fly on it when they're back in the air. I won't. As for Boeing, this 'fix' pretty much admits fault. They may be sued out of existence.

How come such gigantic Boeing is missing communication part specially when it comes to new or important update on any aircraft? Boeing job shouldn't be just deliver aircraft and start making money. They should realize that their business is directly dealing with human lives....

The training should have been available before two planes went down ! Too little too late. Irresponsible, I have lost all faith in this company.

That is the result of softening regulation. Nobody wants them until somebody shits on your side of The fence

It's shameful that MCAS relied on only one AOA sensor. Huge chance of an in-flight failure causing a crash. BoeingCEO

'Now boarding at Heaven's gate, please accept your complimentary track suit and Nikes....'

Umm.... 5 months late, huh? Thanks Boeing......

And though you didn’t post this on your breaking news I am unfollowing everything cnn due to the Kellyanne Conway hire.

300 dead people too late.

Remember the old days when software updates would brick phones not planes?

Jinxy_Minxy They new this sh.t in January and should of already been Fixed.........ImpeachTheMF

maggieNYT Not so fast!

Am I the only one hesitant about a software patch being the answer to the safety of flying at 20,000+ feet 450+mph?

maggieNYT Just in the nick of time! Wait... no...

Only right for the boeing executives to test the patch with them on board ...

'A patch' Is that like a band-aid or cover stick?

Software patch.. Just what you want to hear for a plane..

I think I’ll still give this plane a hard pass.

ALHavlock look how fast!

Yeah, no thanks. You modified a inherently stable airplane and made it unstable. MCAS and a software “patch” is not the answer.

300+ lives and a few hundred million $$ later. Quick patch though considering they said there was nothing wrong. Proves they were busy after the first crash

maggieNYT “Huh, something’s not right here. Did you install the software patch last night?” “No, A message popped up telling me to close my browser first and I didn’t want to lose all my tabs. So I cancelled it.” “... ...”

If it's Boeing, I'm not going.

a 'patch'? really sounds reassuring

maggieNYT F**KING QUICK - wasn't it ?

Why didn’t they do it after the first crash.

Good to know our real human lives have the same value as our player lives in computer games. So worried there for a moment. A “patch” are you seriously this stupid you think the general public will be okay with this?

Am sure the many hundreds of victims and their grieving families are very happy Boeing got up off their fat asses and did what they should have done months ago...

That should do it

Cant wait for all the patches post driverless cars revolution

File this under too little, too late 😡

They had to go in that mcas computer system that controls the air fight surfaces and the sensors and find which line of code his bad

Yeah when I'm traveling at 550mph, 37000 feet up and the plane pops into a vertical nose dive I'd love to see the pilot contend with this....

So what they should have done to begin with

What’s more important will be the training

Little late

maggieNYT I don't think the root cause is the software.

maggieNYT 🗣WHILE BOEING INSISTED FOR DAYS, OVER AND OVER, THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEIR PLANE AND THEY STOOD RIGHT BY IT 100% 👎🏼

Boy, that was quick. It’s almost like they knew there was an issue before the last TWO CRASHES.

Yeah fuck no

tell it to the FBI

maggieNYT It's about time! ⌚⏳🛬🛫😡

maggieNYT Shame they didn’t develop this training program at the outset. Probably wanted to save money. And now people are dead.

Then implement it and as a bonus let all the Boeing executives be the first to test run it. I suggest a world tour. Several dozen take offs and landings. If they knew about the problem why were these planes still in the air?

maggieNYT Well if it were that damned easy why wasn’t it done eons ago.

Sad that something couldn't have been done before hundreds of people had to die. Shameful, Boeing.

Software patch!! This isn't a bloody word document! A mass of metal and humans are in the AIR! 🤮

Training? What, six minutes on an iPhone?

Anyone fancy going on one of those crates ever again?

Free market for the win

No thanks

Man good thing we're cutting back on regulations

Patch Ummmmmmm..rightttttttttt

Perhaps that should have been in place b4 the planes started crashing? Just an idea

Here we are - at a point in life where not only patches fix bugs, but human lives - this is dangerous

Bit late

I guess better late than never, the training program should have been handled before flying passengers.

Interesting

Kind of too late don't you think?

A patch. Sounds like a band aid plaster. Not good enough boeing. Masskillers

JohnMerila

Is the Ipad 50 min training still comes with the patch? I mean who would refuse trainings with Angry Bird app

Oops

They 'had'.

2019 😖. Wait until 2069 when a new patch will be released to ensure the planet’s oxygen system works after a glitch kills 6m ..

Reassuring. Not.

I see you’re trying to not crash a plane, let me help.

awesome but what is Boeing doing for the families that lost their loved ones realDonaldTrump BoeingCIO BoeingCEO ActingSecDef

Why did they have to wait for another plane crash to fix this?

Those are going to be some awkward af flights

Remind me next week

I still wont fly on it n.i will never fly southwest. They refused to refund ppl their money when they were afraid of getting on this plane. Shame on southwest airline

A freaking patch Are you kidding me? That's a bandaid. It needs a complete new versionning.

Sure..

I hope CEO and board takes the 1st flight with new patch.🤔😎

So this is the admission of technical guilt.

....and who wants to be the first to test it out?

Who will fly on this thing after all these deaths and accidents?! FAANews FAASafetyBrief Boeing BoeingAirplanes !!!

A ‘software patch’. A patch. After over 300 people died? A patch.

A Patch? don’t like the sound of that.

Will be available with your next iOS update.
