The system will identify vehicles as they approach a light, check the speed and use the information to adjust the timing of the light changes.

Artificial intelligence will be installed in some traffic lights in Dauphin County.Lower Paxton and Susquehanna Township officials announced a new $1.2 million plan to put AI technology at intersections. The technology will be used on Route 39 and stretch from Fargreen to Patton roads. Nearly 18,000 motorists pass through that area daily.

President of the Susquehanna Township Board of Commissioners Frank Lynch said the hope is for drivers to get to their destinations more quickly.'This is one of the most challenging roads in Dauphin County, and it's high time when we harness technology and work together as municipal representatives to make things better for the people we're privileged to serve,' he said. The AI traffic lights are scheduled to be fully installed by late 2024 or early 2025.
