The extravehicular activity is expected to commence at 8:05 am. ET on Wednesday and will continue for roughly six and a half hours. NASA will broadcast live this rare spacewalk on many platforms, including its YouTube channel, the NASA app, and NASA TV. The live-action will begin at 6:30 am. ET., the two astronauts “will exit the station’s Quest airlock to remove an electronics box called the Radio Frequency Group from the station’s truss that was temporarily stowed after a faulty communications antenna was replaced in Dec. 2021.
Moghbeli and O'Hara have also been given the responsibility to replace one of the 12 trundle bearing assemblies on a solar alpha rotary joint. These bearings are critical in allowing the station's solar arrays to move and align with the Sun as the station circles the Earth, allowing electricity to be collected and stored for power generation for the station's systems.This spacewalk was supposed to take place on October 12.
The first all-female spacewalk occurred in 2019, featuring Christina Koch and Jessica Meir, who ventured outside the ISS to replace a failed power controller.Add Interesting Engineering to your Google News feed.
