“I’m certain I did say, ‘Well that’s not acceptable,’” said Tajer, a leader in the association representing American Airlines pilots. On Wednesday, federal regulators ordered the grounding of the 737 Max 8 and a similar plane, the 737 Max 9, afteron this occasion in Ethiopia on Sunday. Many other countries had already acted.
DeFazio cited a concern that has particularly alarmed pilots: the introduction of software that was flagged in the bulletin sent out after the Lion Air crash. “Whatever level of training they decided on [before the Lion Air crash], it resulted in an iPad course that I took for less than an hour,” Tajer, the American Airlines pilot, said. “A lot of pilots here at American did that course.”
The concerns in meetings with Boeing executives were not the only signs that pilots were worried about the airplane. A federal flight safety reporting system contains about a dozen reports by pilots expressing exasperation about systems that limited their control of the 737 Max. “Some of the reports reference possible issues with the autopilot/autothrottle, which is a separate system from MCAS, and/or acknowledge the problems could have been due to pilot error,” it said in a statement.
The Max uses engines that are both bigger and more fuel-efficient, and the new engines have been moved slightly forward on the wings compared with previous models. To compensate for the repositioning, Boeing added MCAS to replicate the handling characteristics of earlier models.
Dudes, using Owly links? WTF?!! Don't think THE WORLD HAS BEEN HACKED ENOUGH? Carte Blanche URL redirection is insane! ComputerSecurity fail, in passing an article about the lack of software rigor, under corrupt govt, thanks to press & police oversights, killing people. Gee.
Why did you include a photo of Trump? Should include a photo of Tajer since the article is about him. I suggest you wait for the investigation. Tajer is making unsubstantiated claims. Rumors are dangerous. President did the right thing grounding the MAX planes.
CharlesMBlow Jesusfuckingchrist...
CharlesMBlow Ever since Boeing started doing business in SC, they’ve become shadier and shadier.
CharlesMBlow What plane industry in it’s right mind would recreate - and produce - a plane design but neglect to tell the pilots ?
CharlesMBlow Remember when American businesses decided to change their model so instead of people who knew the business from ground up - they shifted to business majors running things . They may know how to squeeze every last dime but they know little about quality production.Boeing for ex ?
Sounds like a pending lawsuit.
So...pilots weren't trained. Sounds like lawsuits from all directions to come. Where have proper procedures gone?
