It could take a month and a half or longer before Boeing 737 Max jets are back up in the air, according to a timeline for a software fix and pilot retraining on which the Federal Aviation Administration briefed members of the House Transportation Committee on Thursday morning.
Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Rick Larsen said there will be a “software fix over the next month, month and a half, and then the process, at least in the U.S., to implement the training, which will then eventually lead to airlines being allowed to fly the 737 Max.“The software fix is due out in a couple weeks, and going fleetwide is going to take at least through April,“ Larsen said. He said the software fix is being tested now.
Transportation Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio said acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell, who led the briefing, was uncertain what additional training might be required, since the software fix will make Boeing planes work the way they used to, “where after the pilot has tried to correct, the MCAS is going to not keep repeating itself, which is what it does now. … It’s going to essentially shut itself off.
A software fix should not be needed for a plane to fly right. The engines are not located properly it seems and a software fix is thus needed
Crucial info was how long it took US govt to ground the planes we KNEW had safety problems. Trump said we didn't know what the problems were, so we shouldn't ground them=dumb. Ground planes UNTIL you figure out problems. US govt values private profit over lives. New govt needed
I would hope they take that long for a life threatening bug.
DBChirpy better safe than dead by plane crash
What airplanes are replacing them? Airlines don’t have extras just sitting around.
Whatever it is it needs to be done I’d rather them take their time and do it right
Boeing is like every other tech company that can't produce quality and timely software updates anymore, except it's now deadly
I would hope so seeing the 'fix' won't be completely integrated for as much as 6 more weeks.
As long as it takes... No more people need to die!
