The sheer complexity of the Western military equipment being supplied to Ukraine means there's no guarantee our hardware is actually being put to good use on the front line, writes Dr. Alexey Muraviev.

Mr Albanese defended the latest package as something of a moral imperative, adding it would help Ukrainian forces repel the “illegal” and “unprovoked” Russian invasion.

“I don‘t get it. The Hawkei is available. It’s something that’s manufactured here and you can increase the numbers so that Defence doesn’t go without,” he said. In the four weeks since the summer campaign’s effective launch on June 4, Zelensky’s forces have – according to Ukrainian officials - liberated just 129.5 sq km.

Russian forces are also taking heavy casualties but by and large they are holding their main defensive positions, and preventing sustained attacks on it main military targets. For all the media attention in the West that surrounded the attempted armed mutiny by Yevgeny Prigozhin on June 23, it doesn’t seem to have affected either Russia’s ability to coordinate operations on the frontline or had any impact on their morale.

NATO, the US and allied nations like Australia have drawn on a wide array of systems and platforms in an attempt to stymie the Russian invasion.
