Selma will be home to a remote air traffic control tower, a first of its kind in the U.S. A remote air traffic control tower, as well as a training facility for the next tech-aided step in aviation, is coming to Selma, in a first for the U.S.
Gaining use in Europe, remote towers use cameras, real-time video and other technology to perform the function of a conventional control tower, only from a different location. According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, Advanced ATC plans to hire 28 people in the first year, growing to as many as 119 within five years, with an annual payroll of $8 million.
“This virtual tower center represents another example of how our state is at the leading edge of trends shaping the future of aviation and aerospace for the U.S.,” Canfield said.
Congratulations to historic Selma, Alabama, the birthplace of Voting Rights. This is only the beginning. Just like they did in historic Birmingham, Alabama, the cradle of Civil Rights, developers are going to buy up historic properties in Selma for 'pennies' and redevelop them...
I told y'all!
