This man says his company is stockpiling billions of our photos from platforms like Facebook and Instagram to help solve crimes. Are you OK with that?

Updated 1114 GMT February 10, 2020If Hoan Ton-That is feeling the pressure, he isn't showing it.

Over the last month, fears about facial recognition technology and police surveillance have intensified, all thanks to Ton-That's startup, Clearview AI. First came a front-page investigation in The New York Times, revealing Clearview has been working with law enforcement agencies to match photos of unknown faces to people's online images. Next, cease-and-desist letters rolled in from tech giants Twitter, Google and Facebook.

Privacy, nothing about crime control, then they scream when a person steal million or killl dozen and is never caught.

Non acceptable... Next question

HervacioJasmin So why are they saying you do?

Any time you get on the internet period you have given up your privacy by choice. It isn't just FB, Twitter. It is all the internet. I realized that from Day One and have zero problem with it.

Yes since I NEVER put my ugly mug online not one I need to worry about

Ever since the internet started there's never been the so called 'privacy' n no one is ok at it.

Let's ban selfies...🙂

They will caught the wrong person....

Ai.

It seems harmless and a good thing. Who doesn’t want crimes solved? criminals But Then the slippery slope of where does it stop? Envisions of misuse and control sends up flags that scream government control, free speech suppression. 😱 yikes

No, not liking idea of one person collecting everyone's photos. Who gave him the go ahead for that? If they're on social media, why does he have to collect them? Police can find them. How does that help solve crimes, is he including names?

I don’t mind to be honest it’s public domain when you make something public if it helps law enforcement solve crimes I’d be more than glad to see it happening

SOUNDS GOOD!

Absolutely not! The question is who owns the right to their own digital footprint for commercial exploitation. Privacy is a valued social right & people should be demanding protections. No application is free; trade-off your digital persona rights & they are gone forever

NO

If you think the privacy implications of Clearview AI’s business model are bad, wait until you find out about their links to white supremacists...

If you have done nothing wrong why should you worry?

I have nothing to hide.

Using people's desire to be liked in order to pry into their personal information is asking for trouble.

It only takes one mistake... for someone to be swatted that was inncocent.. for these idiots that say they are ok because they didnt commit a crime to change their stance and realize.. Privacy does matter and you should be disturbed by this.

Noo

American companies have been mining data from billions of people across the world where their tech companies dominate... US is perfectly placed to start researching on weapons of mass destruction controlled by AI but also genetically modified poisons which affect a certain race

No the fuq I am not!!

Solve crimes? What? Drunk on a weekday? Texting & driving? Hopefully he is just collecting adult photos and not stockpiling kid photos for his friends with that fetish.

Of course

No!

I don't care! I'm not doing any crimes!!!!

I don't know if I am, to be totally honest....

That's why my Facebook settings are set to private/friends only. And the only friends I have on Facebook are people I actually know. Like family and family friends. If you thought people weren't already taking your pictures, you were wrong.

That is strange sick and not ok. If I didnt do anything nut you are giving people access to my image that's weird. And he is not doing it for any reason other than money

How is this legal Wtf is goingon

This needs to become illegal. NOW!

Wth?! That's disgusting!

another lowlife who prolly went to B-School. Louis XVI a proponent of the guillotine also had a taste of it.

Wileywench1 No man who looks like that should be stockpiling photos

Totally creepy shit that needs to be stopped.

LMAO NEVER HAD FACEBOOK NEVER WILL. DONT TAKE PHOTOS WITH TOUR CAMERA IF YOU DONT WANT IT USED AGAINST YOU LATER IN LIFE. ALSO PEDOPHILES LOVE TO LOOK AT YOUR PICS. EVERY TIME YOU DOWNLOAD AN APP YOU GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR PICS AND PRIVATE LIVES

Haa
