Queensland Liberal National MP Keith Pitt has told Sky News "small modular reactors are potentially the way of the future" as the debate around nuclear energy continues.

Mr Pitt hosed down concerns over the dangers of nuclear reactors, saying “you really can’t compare what happened in those sites constructed in the late 60s and early 70s with what the current technology is”. Mr Pitt and his Queensland senate colleague James McGrath proposed a full investigation into nuclear energy to the Prime Minister last month. Image: News Corp Australia

It is a plain fact nuclear power stations are very expensive to build and can't get insurance, as what happens in the USA. It seems we have a government hell bent against renewables and cheap energy! They don't even care about their own grandchildren and their children's future!

yes yes yes !!

_Shaggs3 At last, sensible discussion regarding nuclear. It's the only way to go.

FFS, they are not even commercially available yet. Another LNP member that is obviously there on merit. auspol

Gen 4👍

For 20 years these people have been saying, 'we can't build Renewables they are too expensive' Now renewables are cheap they are saying - 'lets stop building Renewables and let's build something way way more expensive & isn't yet possible!' WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

But evidently not in submarines, where we really need any edge we can get.

And Lucas Heights have been operating safey since 1958

'The department is currently accepting public submissions. Submissions will be one of the factors the Minister may take into account in understanding community sentiment for the facility.' AusPol LNPfail

NUCLEAR IS JUST A DELIBERATE TIME WASTING DISTRACTION...sO they can waste another 3 years after the last 6 without an energy policy to address infrastructure shortfalls and their greedy coal electricity company mates and donors robbing rorting and price gouging Australians

Fukushima happened in 2011 that’s not that long ago mate

They don’t even exist yet, go back to sleep.

So instead of 1 large Chernobyl, we will have a lot of tiny Chernobyl’s. Brilliant

Queensland remember Chernobyl great idea.
