Self driving and autonomous vehicle conceptDriving these days is a lot more complicated than ever, as vehicles become increasingly sophisticated with technology that helps drivers do things like stay in lanes and maintain speeds and following distances with minimal input.that highlight how some drivers are confused about emerging systems., a nonprofit financed by the insurance industry.
One study looked at system names, among the first ways drivers learn about a feature. The goal was to understand how a system’s name can influence perceptions of capabilities on the road; the study found how the names manufacturers use for these systems can send the wrong messages to drivers regarding how attentive they should be.
One name in particular seemed “to over promise” when it comes to the degree to which drivers can shift their attention away from the road, the institute said. Tesla’s Autopilot “signals to drivers that they can turn their thoughts and their eyes elsewhere,” the survey found.
