The U.S. Department of Justice announced a huge antitrust investigation into Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon. What does this mean for big tech?

The Justice Department will review the juggernauts to determine if they are engaging in monopolistic anti-competitive activities.

Facebook was ordered to pay $5 billion to settle the FTC’s investigation into assertions that it misused customer data. This will be a bonanza for lawyers, regulators, compliance, audit, forensics and related professionals. The gauntlet has been thrown down by Trump and the DOJ. It seems clear that they believe these tech giants have a liberal bias, in addition to their alleged monopolistic business practices. Armies of professionals will be required to conduct the investigation and respond to the subpoenas, inquiries and demands for information.

If I was any of these big techs, I'll shut it down for the week. Especially Google. And watch how everyone responds.

Surely the government wants full control over these tech giants. Safety and security is important but the government won’t rest until they are able to dictate how these companies operate
