Days before the fifth Metro Manila Shake Drill, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has sought the help of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and telecommunications companies to announce the conduct of the drill.

This year’s drill is on July 27 and will start at exactly 4 a.m. Alarms and sirens will be sounded simultaneously to mark its commencement in the metropolis.

In a letter to DICT and NTC, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim asked for help in sending text blasts to alert the public ahead of the drill. NTC, according to MMDA, is an attached agency of the DICT which is responsible for the supervision, adjudication, and control over all telecommunications services throughout the country.

Recently, MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago said that they are optimistic that many will still take part in the drill despite its very early start wherein most people are still probably snoring on their beds. She said that MMDA has already coordinated with local government units, saying all of them vowed their commitment during the conduct of the drill. The agency said that various scenarios will be depicted in each of the four quadrants: north, south, west, and east, with the simulation of the “Oplan Metro Yakal,” MMDA’s contingency plan in the event of an earthquake.
