A law requiring free internet services and better restroom facilities in public transportation terminals was signed into law in April.
Republic Act 11311, also called"An Act to Improve Land and Transportation Terminals, Stations, Stops, Rest Areas and Roll-on/Roll-off terminals," was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte last April 17.The law requires free internet access for public land transportation terminals, as well as in roll-on/roll-off stations.
It also requires better restroom facilities, including diaper changing stations. Terminals should also provide lactation stations for breastfeeding mothers separate from the restrooms. The practice of collecting fees from passengers to use public restrooms is now prohibited as long as passengers can present a paid bus ticket. Fees can still be collected for"separate, well-appointed or deluxe sanitary facilities."
Owners, operators or administrators of transportation terminals may be fined P5,000 per day for violating the law.
