New South Wales looks set to become another Australian state to introduce digital driver licences, with the technology to be rolled out statewide in the coming months.

More than 14,000 drivers are already taking part in trials across the state - in Dubbo, Albury and Sydney's eastern suburbs. The NSW government has labelled them a"success".

The NSW government says the technology can be used as a proof of identification and age, outside of just driving. They also expect businesses to accept the licences in places like bars, banks, hotels and tobacco retailers. For that time, drivers who have opted-in to trial licences will have to continue carrying their plastic licences.
