—The Department of Science and Technology is pushing local government units across the country to fully adopt smart governance, which utilizes Information and Communications Technology .“With smart governance, we envision a future with greater efficiency of delivering public services,” said Dr. Enrico Paringit, executive director of DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development .
“Smart governance can close the gap between goals and needs of the people in shorter period of time and in an efficient manner,” added DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara at the 9th anniversary of DOST-PCIEERD in this city. While no single LGU in the country has fully adopted smart governance, some including Davao City partially uses ICT in its public safety and security program.
Engr. Rowen Gelonga, DOST regional director for Westesrn Visayas, disclosed that both LGUs of the city and province of Iloilo are eyeing to fully adopt smart governance. Meanwhile, DOST-PCIEERD’s anniversary had ICT lectures and exhibits on transportation solutions; housing and infrastructure; environmental protection, food safety, education, and disaster risk reduction.
