Apple is shutting down iTunes—here's what will happen to your music

that it's shutting down iTunes, its 18-year-old digital media software. In its place, Mac users will have three individual, dedicated apps for music, podcasts and TV, similar to the current iPhone setup.

The transition will take place when the macOS Catalina, the latest version of Apple's Mac operating system, debuts in the fall.

CNBC Apple is NOT “shutting down iTunes.” The iTunes app for macOS will become 3 separate apps in their new “Catalina” release later this year. The iTunes store, and all the content you have purchased or ripped from your CDs will remain. iTunes app for Windows also remains.

CNBC Another way to 'own' your digital files (see article): You can convert most songs you bought to MP3 or AAC files in iTunes, which can be saved/played anywhere. Purchased music was DRM protected only for the first few years.

CNBC Shows how lame Apple has become since Jobs and Woz have been gone. Best they could come up with on a new OS is splitting up Itunes. Glad use Linux, cause Windows is number one but there is a rumor there next big thing is making you lease the OS so you can use it.

CNBC Apple is NOT shutting down iTunes. It is only removing it from the new MacOS that was announced and replacing it with 3 new apps. Windows PC users will still use iTunes, as will users of the older MacOS versions.
