'If a terrorist was walking down the street, most of the public in London would've thought that probably we were already using the technology that ought to be able to get that person stopped,' the Metropolitan Police Commissioner has said.

Cressida Dick backed the technology, calling it “very useful”. But, Britain’s most senior police officer added, we are “miles from” being able to deploy it - despite it being depicted in films such as the James Bond franchise.

Dickhead doesn't realise that movies are fiction and not reality. Sigh

What on earth do all those campaign medals signify ? Has she ever served in The armed forces ? I didn’t think she was even tall enough...

They should be caught BEFORE ... THIS IS BLATANT ATTEMPT AT CHINEESE STYLE MASS SURVEILLANCE..

As a former Met Police officer, I cannot at present think that Cressida Dick is the best person to head the Metropolitan police . The Police Service needs a “Leader” of clout and stature, not some ineffective person appointed to fulfill the political ideals of the “Liberal Left”

Catch bad guys? And the £90 fine for the Londoner who “covered up” on the street during a facial recognition trial? Not very liberal, is it

China and America have already rolled it out. It won’t be long before it is here.

No doubt council busy bodies will want access to see if you live in a good school area. Just saying

No.

Nope. If you’re using that tech the terrorists have won. bigbrotheriswatchingyou

The problem is the Police get certain powers intended for one thing and then seem to use them repeatedly in petty ways. The malicious comms act is a good example, ie: arresting housewives for stupid tweets. Man alive!

Oh no ! Facial recognition! I mean it’s the end! Seriously..... we went crime to be sorted out but don’t want the solutions......

It's surveillance. Free citizen might as well be waking in prison under supervision.

Given the lies that lady told after killing that Brazilian, I wouldn’t trust her views or her with the technology. Our ‘elite’ can not be trusted.

Umm how about using traditional policing to stop the stabbings. Start with that.

Govt has fast tracked anybody off back of lorry into British Passport without any background checks If people only knew the truth... it has caused a cultural imbalance, others refused stay are gutted causing worldwide animosity bringing Britain into disrepute. It’s a SHAM

Straight outa the bull back side

Ahhh great, facial recognition... so whens the Chinese style social credit system coming?

Bollocks. State surveillance is Big Brother. I want my privacy. I do not want to be tracked and spied on by persons unknown for reasons unknown, and not at all. I don't want Britain to be like China. A nice tool for blackmail by the secret services too.

No flipping way. This ‘AI’ Policing needs serious rethinking. Unless there’s legislation to regulate its use + judicial oversight its use is unlawful. And with all due respect to metpoliceuk Commissioner, the idea that FRT is the slam dunk solution to terrorism is for the birds.

First they allow the terrorists into the country, then they use them as the excuse to spy on all of us. We are becoming totalitarian and we don't seem to mind.

Love the way the ‘consent’ in ‘policing by consent’ is simply assumed.

Like all of this stuff(ID cards for example) should be used if it helps to stop the bad guys but we know what sort of snowflake always objects!

“if that included live facial recognition they probably think for the most serious crimes it ought to be being used”. Problem is facial recognition tech will be used 24x7 on 100% of population in all major cities in UK. On past form will be misused and images stored forever.

I expect the police to use every available method to keep me safe. If technology is available, use it. The day media outlets stop giving the usual few malcontents an inflated presence is the day these serial complainers might find something useful to do with their lives.

Its not about preventing crime, its about the loss of freedom. You've got CCTV absolutely EVERYWHERE in this country and crime still occurs.this is not a preventative measure and everyone with an ounce of common sense knows it.

Chinese state

No thank you. Big brother state
