Korean firm LG Energy Solution has unlocked an advanced battery technology, which it plans to bring to the market by 2028.
The development comes as the need for cheaper and more environmentally friendly battery production methods grows. At the end of 2023, the firm’s sister entity, LG Chem, commenced the construction of its cathode plant in Clarksville, Tennessee, with a scheduled annual production capacity of 60,000 tons.Batteries are composed of three key components: two electrodes and an electrolyte that facilitates charge transfer between them. The choice of materials for these components affects the battery’s energy storage capacity and production cost.
