According to a close source, Olowoporoku took his life in the early hours of Sunday for repeatedly failing some courses.
CAMPUSLIFE learnt that Olowoporoku had been battling frustration and depression over courses he borrowed and failed from both the departments of Civil Engineering, and Computer Science. The source, who claimed to be close to the deceased, said the latter usually approached him for counseling anytime he was worried, adding that he never hesitated to lend him a helping hand by telling him never to give up.
The deceased, who was an executive in the department association, was supposed to have graduated with the 2016/2017 session, but for the failed courses.
Is it a crime to retake the courses........haba
This incessant incidence of students taking their lives is not something that is common 2 us here, but recently it has started taking its root here, a case was recorded in Bayero university some yrs back and nothin was done about it, schools should look in2 these cases critically
Our institutions should start to counsel students that failing a course doesn't make you a failure. Properly handled, it is to toughen & improve you. Suicide is extreme, as it denies success. This calls for regular appraisal of mental health in our school system.
