This follows a stabbing incident that led to the death of an altruistic Chinese woman and the injury of two Japanese nationals. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences for Ms Hu, and the Japanese embassy in China flew its flag at half-mast to honour her. However, they also condemned users who made extreme remarks encouraging confrontations between China and Japan, or smeared Ms Hu’s reputation by saying she is a mole for Japan. The platforms have blocked or shut down accounts containing such harmful content.
