Launches matter. That’s why tech companies spend inordinate amounts on huge events to unveil their new products. Microsoft’s launch of its Recall AI could barely have gone any worse.

In short, Recall would lurk in the background, silently recording everything you do on the PC. It would literally take screenshots of what you’re doing every few seconds, then scrape the information from those screenshots and store it in a database. The idea being that if, in a week’s time, you couldn’t remember the details of an email exchange you had with your boss, say, you could ask the AI to fill you in.

“Microsoft are inventing a new security nightmare using Copilot, which will undoubtedly lead to increased fraud for consumers and other woes for businesses,”A fortnight after unveiling Recall and after days of disastrous headlines about the privacy nightmare it was about to release, Microsoft tried to put out the flames. It released an update on itslast week, outlining three new measures that would improve the security of Recall before it was shipped to the public.

“We are adjusting the release model for Recall to leverage the expertise of the Windows Insider community to ensure the experience meets our high standards for quality and security,” an update on the “If Microsoft had approached this with some degree of respect for protecting user data, it might have played out better than it did,” Miller added.
