It’s been four years of seismic shifts in the way we work, as five days a week in the office became 100% remote. Now that the pendulum has settled somewhere in between, companies face a new challenge: how to compete with the comforts of a home office?

As the CEO of a smart building technology company, I’ve seen the many ways these systems are helping to enhance the tenant experience. Here are a few ways to make it work best.Smart building systems can help property owners and landlords reduce operational costs and energy consumption by optimizing systems such as automatic lighting, efficient HVAC systems and smart metering.

Smart buildings can create personalized environments that adapt to individual preferences, such as temperature and lighting, based on occupants' needs. Data on air quality, humidity and other factors helps create a healthier, more comfortable workspace. Smart building systems can foster a sense of community among employees by integrating technology and thoughtful design. Companies can send notifications and promote events, or offer workers in-person perks like food credits. Employees can use digital platforms to book desks, order food, check on available parking spots or bikes for hire, or just see who else is in the office today and connect with them virtually.
