Walmart is looking to further expand its in-store technology in the hope of improving the customer experience.

The digital self-labels, or DSLs, will represent a shift in how stores manage pricing, inventory, order fulfillment and customer interactions, with the goal of ensuring a better shopping experience.Well, there are over 120,000 products on Walmart store shelves, each of which comes with a price tag, of course. Every week, Walmart stores update its prices on new items, rollbacks and markdowns.

DSLs, developed by Vusion Group, allows Walmart stores to update prices on the shelf using a mobile app, reducing the need for staff to walk around and change paper tags by hand. This, the company said, will give staff more time to tend to customers in the store. The company said that DSLs will enhance the way shelves are stocked with the “Stock to Light” feature, where an associate can flash an LED light on the shelf using a tag from their mobile device. This will make it easier for associates to identify a shelf location for customers

DSLs also enhances how orders are fulfilled with the “Pick to Light” feature, which guides an associate directly to a product that’s needed for online orders, speeding up the picking process and improving order accuracy. The DSLs are the latest overhaul for Walmart in recent months, another step towards what the retail giant says is the “Walmart of the future.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
