The Austin Police Department Auto Theft Unit hosted an event for Hyundai vehicle owners to bring their vehicles to the Austin Police Department on Saturday for a free anti-theft software upgrade.
Hyundai welcomed motorists from Austin and nearby areas who own or lease certain Hyundai vehicles for the upgrade."Hyundai was here a few months ago working with APD to protect the residents in the community against a method of theft that's been popularized on social media," said Senior Group Manager for Hyundai Motor America Ira Gabriel. "We found a great partnership with the Austin Police Department.
The event was intended to complement Hyundai’s nationwide network of dealerships and encourage further installations of the anti-theft software upgrade for customers who continue to be affected by theft. "We set it up so that people could come by and have the software update put onto their vehicle if it applied," Gabriel said. "If it didn't, we'd have another mechanical solution and we'd get every Hyundai owner a steering wheel lock to teach them a little bit about the different layers of protection."
Gabriel encouraged those who couldn't make it to the event to make an appointment at their local Hyundai dealership to get the software upgrade, he stated that the process only takes 12-15 minutes.
