SAN DIEGO — San Diego County leaders announced Wednesday they now have a new tool to help them more precisely evacuate neighborhoods during an emergency, including aRegional fire and safety officials gathered to talk about the new technology at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
The technology was created by a Rancho Bernardo-based company called Genasys. It's not just for wildfires, it can be used in all different kinds of emergencies. "First responders with this platform could roll up on to a fire, and then run a Genasys provided fire model that looks into the future based on about 27 different variables," said Richard Danforth, CEO of Genasys.
He said the variables include things like weather, the population of an area, what the buildings are made up, the street infrastructure. He said the technology takes all those things into consideration and can give them a better picture of where the fire will be in an hour or two or which neighborhoods are most at risk.
The new technology was developed by a team of emergency managers, law enforcement, fire officials, and other safety experts.
