Abakiliki Catholic Diocese has clarified that none of its priests bears the name Rev. Fr. Jude Obasi as being circulated on the internet. The church said the clarification followed rumors circulating on social media alleging that the said priest, Fr.

Obasi, purportedly from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State, got married to his lover. The marriage was alleged to have taken place on the 25th of May, 2024 at St Mary's Catholic Church Abakaliki. However, the Church has now come out to say that no such event took place within the Diocese on the said date that could allude to a priest or an ex-priest getting married. Rev. Fr.

Matthew Uzoma Opoke, Diocesan Chancellor, in a statement issued on Monday on behalf of the Diocese, said the face of the person in the picture being referred to online does not resemble the face of any of their priest. Opoke also dismissed the rumors by saying that Afikpo North Local Government Area has no indigenous priest, incardinated anywhere in the world, that goes by the alleged name. He added that there is no such place as St. Mary's Catholic Church, Abakaliki, in the Diocese.
