Other times, long-time customers are grandfathered into older, less expensive plans that they want to keep forever.But because of a mistake Verizon admitted it made, Mayer’s internet service has been off since late January.

But somehow, instead of canceling her service — which was under a different name, address, phone number and account number than Mayer’s account — Verizon canceled Mayer’s service. “Verizon’s reps consistently told me that a technical issue prevented restoration,” Mayer said he was told.“Everything done previously was wrong,” he said a Verizon representative told him. “We have a process to restore when we made a mistake,” he said he was told.Verizon responded in an email on April 4, saying it could reactivate the service, but not at the previous rates because Mayer’s earlier plan was “a retired plan that is no longer offered.
