Premier League clubs will vote on the future of VAR next month after Wolverhampton Wanderers tabled a notion to vote on scrapping the technology

Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney is adamant that VAR should be scrapped in the Premier League after it was announced clubs will be voting on its future next month.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have tabled a notion to the top flight to discuss the future of the technology, which has been implemented in the Premier League since 2019. During that time, VAR has gained a controversial reputation with decisions taking longer to be decided and high-profile mistakes have still been made.

When asked on Sky Sports whether VAR should be scrapped by the Premier League, Rooney brilliantly responded: "Please," before adding: "I have been vocal on VAR, I don’t like it. If it is there and they got all the decisions right then fair enough but it has taken all the enjoyment out of the game.

"But every weekend we are talking about decisions even more so than back in the day where there was no VAR, you would accept decisions that sometimes go for you and sometimes against. I have not been a fan and I agree it does slow the game down. "It is frustrating for supporters, the players and for us." When the clubs meet in Harrogate on June 6, 14 clubs will have to vote in favour of VAR being scrapped for it to be taken out of the forthcoming 2024/25 season.
