The Nation Newspaper Why cybersecurity levy can’t take off, by Fed Govt

The Federal Government has given reasons for asking banks to suspend the controversial Cybersecurity Levy implementation.

There were indications at the weekend why President Bola Tinubu instructed the ONSA to suspend the implementation of the policy.yesterday that President Tinubu directed the suspension of the policy because the ONSA did not get the proper approval before embarking on the implementation of the Act.The source said the President, given his sensitivity to the plight of Nigerians under the current economic conditions, would not allow anything that would further stress the citizens.

“It is wrong to say he ordered the CBN to stop. The CBN is not the originator of the action. It is the NSA,” the source said. Also, this week, banks are expected to get an order to “ignore the implementation directive,” a CBN official told The Nation yesterday. Also, Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume has praised President Tinubu for listening to Nigerians’ complaints and halting the implementation of the levy.
