Skylar Celeste Boone Earlier this week the city of Dothan broke ground on the construction of the Wiregrass Innovation Center.
“By working together, the state of Alabama, the city of Dothan, HudsonAlpha and leaders across the region have ensured innovation continues to sweep across all of Alabama. I am confident this facility will be known as one of the top AgTech Centers in the nation,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. HudsonAlpha Wiregrass will use the facility to provide hands-on training and practical learning in science, genomics, research, technology and innovation. The nonprofit organization will also help bring jobs to the area.
Many entrepreneurs and startup companies are anticipating the opening of the Wiregrass Innovation Center; some agtech startups are already planning to locate in the center. RDG Planning and Design and Fuqua and Partners are serving as the architects of record on the project. A general contractor has not been selected. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025.
In a press release from the City of Dothan and HudsonAlpha Wiregrass they stated that: Building on George Washington Carver’s rich legacy of innovation, the Wiregrass now takes the next step to become one of the top agtech centers in the nation.
