Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has spoken about the death of a “radicalised” teenage boy who was shot in WA on Saturday night. A after he rushed at him with a knife at a Bunnings car park in Perth’s southern suburbs. Plibersek said concerns about the teen were raised with the school.“I think it’s important to allow time for an investigation to see what more could have been done to prevent this tragedy,” she told Seven’s Sunrise this morning.

The minister said it was also important to note there was a need to invest in mental health support, and hold social media giants to account. “Once again, we hear of this incredibly disturbing behaviour that has been at least made worse by what’s happening online,” she said. Nationals backbencher Barnaby Joyce said he backed the comments from Plibersek, saying it was commendable the school and Islamic community reached out for help in relation to the teen.
