I’ve been using a Google Pixel 8 Pro for months now – its camera system is one of the most highly rated by independent lab testers DXOMark.
A keen photographer from a young age who has worked as a professional photographer and an image quality engineer, Michael said: "Pixel’s AI camera and computational photography pipeline is one of the biggest mobile computing breakthroughs of the last decade. And it’s moving the entire industry forward. On Pixel 8 series, the camera makes it so easy to get beautiful shots.
Pixel phone users know it’s the computational photography smarts that have for some years now ensured the cameras deliver such a consistently pleasing experience, and Michael was keen to stress the important role that AI already plays in Google’s smartphone photography – and he said this will increase going forward.
“Pixel users can also capture memorable moments with friends and family using our Best Take feature which allows users to select the best shots from a series of photos taken in quick succession.” This amazing service is currently free, and Michael would not be drawn on whether the company plans to charge for it in the future. But he did indicate the firm is working towards implementing a more fluid multi-camera system that acts more like a single camera system the way a DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lens would function. “We are always striving to make our camera system the best it can be.
“I love to stick my camera phone in places that I can't stick a DSLR, like down a drain on the street where I can catch interesting macro images or going to the local garden centre and sticking my phone in between some plants in a little flower bed and the images that you get are like this new world that you've never seen before.”
