Data management software is all-consuming for Biza.io boss Stuart Low. He achieves inner peace when scuba diving with a multitude of marine life.

tuart Low is founder and chief executive of Biza.io, a data management software company. He lives in Brisbane. My wife, Sally, and I first gained SSI Open Water Diver certification in 2012 and then upgraded to PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification in 2016.With the business and kids, not as much as I used to and would like to. I generally do a cluster of three to five dives over a week every six to 12 months while on holiday in a tropical location.

More than 50, but I’ve done more than that – taking notes after a dive is often superseded by finding the nearest bar serving a mojito. It may surprise the non-diver, but primarily for relaxation. Bottom time, which is the time from starting descent to starting ascent, is one of very few methods I’ve found to slow down my mind and get some inner peace.

Beyond this, the biggest logistics involve getting in the water. With boat dives, you have to get up early and tolerate the conditions on the way out, which can be a bit sickness-inducing. With shore dives, you get the fun of walking with 20 kilograms of gear, often down rocky outcrops, in soft boots. On a hot day, you end up desperate to enter the water as soon as possible.

Low doesn’t believe in shark deterrents. “The whole point of diving for me is to take in the marine life.”The ocean is their home, and we are visiting. I’ve never had a negative experience despite swimming near hundreds of them. I certainly wouldn’t swim directly towards them or make sudden movements, but a human covered in neoprene isn’t a particularly tasty meal. No, I don’t.

For John Anderton, founder of a tech development agency, Pilates has been a core routine for years to work off office tensions. He recently called on it during an emergency.Plarre Foods Group boss Steve Plarre loves to belt it out in a band like his idols, Freddie Mercury and Elton John.Chargefox head of marketing Rob Asselman works mostly from home, which helps him find the time to problem-solve while running.
