U.S. artificial-intelligence export crackdown may hurt people, too GinaChon

The U.S. Commerce Department is reviewing public comments on its proposal to impose export controls on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology. If adopted, the government could prohibit exports of certain products to buyers from China and elsewhere unless a license is obtained.

Regulations define an export to include the release of technology or software to a foreign national in the United States, as it can be considered an export to that person’s home country.

McDonald's is buying a startup that uses AI to try to make you spend moreMcDonald's is buying Dynamic Yield, a tech startup that it hopes will help it sell customers more of what they want. Does anybody else have a problem with this? I happen to like McDonald's. It's my favorite fast food. Shouldn't that be enough? Actively engaging in technological manipulation is unethical & greedy. You should just be happy with the people liking your product. I stopped eating this McShit when they stopped serving hot food. In the immortal words of the late great Wesley Willis: “They serve Quarter-Pounders. They will put pounds on you...” Willis’ warnings are even more fully realized with the introduction of robots. Wish he was alive to see this moment.
