Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed to a significant change in how offside decisions are made, with semi-automated technology set to be introduced next season.
The move comes amid ongoing debates over VAR's efficiency, particularly regarding delays and accuracy in tight offside situations. A similar system has already been used in international tournaments and the Champions League over the past 12 months. It was in place at the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia in December as well. It is hoped that the decision time will be dramatically reduced after cases of over five minutes being taken to come to an outcome with the current structure in place of drawing on lines manually. There is also a benefit for the fans at the grounds.
