This week I have a massive beast of a keyboard for review that is probably the biggest and heaviest I’ve ever looked at. The Keychron Q6 Pro is a full-size mechanical keyboard that is built like a proverbial tank. This keyboard reminds me of the kind of keyboards that used to be used on mainframe computers. It’s a joy to use and if you are a coder or write novels for a living, it could be the one for you.
With its full-metal case, this wireless keyboard has a 100% layout which means it features a full numeric keypad, navigation keys and cursor cluster. There is also a full row of function keys that double as multimedia controls. Beneath the keys, there is a double gasket design for a solid typing experience, while the keycaps are high-quality, double-shot and made from PBT.
Like many mechanical keyboards, the Q6 Pro features hot-swappable switches and you can choose between Keychron’s K Pro Red, Brown or Banana switches if ordering as a barebones mode. The fully assembled version is available with Red switches. The circuit board beneath the keys is secured with screw-in stabilizers that produce a smooth typing experience with less wobble on the larger keys like the space bar, shift, enter and delete keys. You can also customize with your own choice of stabilizers.
