It is clear AI will have large impacts to business, and much of recent focus has been on customer-facing products and services. But how will AI impact a company's back-office functions in the next five years? While consumer-facing AI developments often receive the lion's share of the news, the back office is one of the areas most ripe for AI-driven transformation.Generative AI is an emerging technology, and some companies are carefully testing the waters and watching market deployments.

Rather than providing iterative improvement over existing tools, AI provides an opportunity to leapfrog and change how work is accomplished by combining the power of humans and machines. Using AI can drastically shorten the time it takes to accomplish certain tasks, freeing up time to focus on more important and innovative endeavors that only humans can perform.

When evaluating business processes today and looking for ways to identify work ripe for transformation, it is important to involve an array of individuals in the process. It’s common for company leaders to create a-focused group to drive AI. The power of AI and generative AI comes from applying it to business processes to reimagine how the work can be performed. This requires business and data expertise combined with insight into how to safely and responsibly implement AI.
