The emergence of new technology such as AI will worsen the risks from cyberattacks, Lieutenant General Michelle McGuinness says.

Already a subscriber?Cybercrime and cyberattacks are being underreported and the problem will get worse as technologies such as artificial intelligence become more sophisticated, says the new national cyber tsar.

“We’ve strengthened relationships across the different sectors, particularly across critical infrastructure sectors, which are a very attractive target,” she said. “It is vital to both our national security and our economy.As part of the co-ordinator’s work, the National Office of Cyber Security is stepping up exercises with key businesses and sectors on how to manage a cyberattack.

“We have seen attacks growing in number, speed and sophistication, and they are continuing to evolve and become more complex.
