Image: X/@dsigovzaby Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Minister, Professor Blade Nzimande, the retirement of Dr. Phil Mjwara, the nation’s longest-serving Director-General of the Department of Science and Innovation , was made public.

“Dr. Mjwara played a leading role in establishing critical science institutions such as the Technology Innovation Agency and the South African National Space Agency ,” Minister Nzimande stated. Moreover, Mjwara’s leadership extended beyond his immediate purview. As the chairperson of the Forum of South African Directors-General , he adeptly navigated interdepartmental collaborations, ensuring synergies across various governmental initiatives.
