The company confirmed that its restaurants were affected by a 'technology outage'

On Friday morning , customers in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, said they experienced issues buying food from the fast food giant. The company confirmed that its restaurants were affected by a "technology outage" which reportedly affected the ability to order through the McDonald's app.

In Japan, it is understood operations across 3,000 locations were halted due to the disruption while 160 New Zealand locations reported being unable to process orders properly. In the UK, there are around 245 McDonald's restaurants, according to its own website.A McDonald's spokesperson said: “We are aware of a technology outage which impacted our restaurants. The issue has now been resolved in the UK and Ireland.

The fast food giant also confirmed that the outage was not due to any cybersecurity issues. It has also issued an apology to all customers affected. "We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. The issue is not related to a cybersecurity event.” Downdetector began reporting customer issues with the McDonald's UK app from around 5am this morning. Worldwide, the chain owns around 40,000 restaurants.
