British Columbia is now offering immunotherapy cancer treatment called CAR-T to patients who haven't had success with standard chemotherapy or radiation. The treatment genetically engineers a patient's white blood cells to recognize and kill cancer cells.
Previously, patients had to be sent outside the province or country for this treatment. $14.3 million in this year's budget will allow up to 20 adults and 5 children to receive treatment at Vancouver General Hospital or BC Children's Hospital.
