Opinion: Addressing the problem of violence online, the burden is on anyone who demands a 'solution' to come up with one—and to show why it won't merely expand the state and empower censors

Footage of last week’s massacre in New Zealand, which the shooter streamed in real time via Facebook Live, quickly proliferated. The original 17-minute webcast was viewed fewer than 200 times and wasn’t immediately reported, Facebook says. Some user finally flagged the video to Facebook 12 minutes later, but by then it had been copied to the internet’s darker lairs.

Facebook says it has blocked 1.2 million attempts to repost the footage on its site, while taking down 300,000 more that made it past its filter that screens...

Until and unless the violent nature of people and their responses, which permeates societies now, to anything or anyone they do not favour, it will and cannot be changed
