In an era where ethical artificial intelligence and diversity are taking center stage in recruitment, Brazilian human resources startup Jobecam has received an investment from the Inter-American Development Bank to advance its platform aimed reducing bias in recruitment.
Jobecam's software as a service suite enables pre-recorded anonymous interviews, anonymous resumes, and live anonymous interviews that utilize robotized voices and avatars. These are complemented by traditional hiring models involving screening resumes and video interactions without anonymity. The IDB funding will go towards refining Jobecam's technology, which has been recently enhanced with dynamic 3D avatars. The feature allows candidates to interact in real-time with recruiters through a gender-neutral voice and an avatar representing diverse groups. The approach is intended to ensure that candidates are evaluated based on their professional merits rather than physical attributes or stereotypes.
Valued at approximately $10 million, Jobecam has backers including Harvard Angels, BRQ Digital Solutions and Brazil's former Central Bank chief Armínio Fraga. Amidst the challenging terrain of fundraising, the company is focusing on investment not just in Brazil and Latin America as guided by BID Lab's funding, but also setting sights on the United States.
