Prime minister due to wrap up AI safety summit at Bletchley Park as Labour calls for urgent regulation

Rishi Sunak told reporters at the AI safety summit this morning that people should not be “alarmist” about AI – even though he also said the technology could be as dangerous as a pandemic, or nuclear war.

Asked whether a Terminator-style rise of the machines was possible, he replied: People developing this technology themselves have raised the risk that AI may pose and it’s important to not be alarmist about this. There’s debate about this topic. People in the industry themselves don’t agree and we can’t be certain.
